Officers on the Upper West Side of Manhattan arrested a man and recovered a vehicle that was stolen in Pennsylvania earlier this week with the help of an NYPD Traffic Enforcement Agent who is also a U.S. Veteran. The vehicle was determined to be stolen after NYPD Traffic Enforcement Agent Azizur Rahman ran the license plate through an NYPD database as he was issuing a parking summons to the gold Ford Taurus near West 131 Street and Convent Avenue Monday afternoon.
Before the agent completed issuing the summons, the driver of the vehicle returned to the location. Agent Rahman was able to flag down a passing 26 Precinct patrol car and alert the police officers of the situation. The responding officers placed the 50-year-old suspect under arrest and further investigation led to the recovery of two loaded firearms, a gravity knife and a quantity of marijuana.
Traffic Enforcement Agent Rahman is a United States Army Reservist who served an 18-month deployment in Afghanistan.
