Shadat Hossain, 34, was elected Brooklyn delegate in December. A traffic enforcement agent in Brooklyn North, he immigrated to the United States from Bangladesh as a teenager and has been on the job since 2008. His priorities for the union include having it “fulfill promises to the agents,” winning better salaries—more than the $36,000 maximum for a Level 2 TEA—and overall, gaining respect. “People know what we’re doing, but the city doesn’t recognize what we do,” he says. For example, agents injured on the job have to deal with the workers’ compensation system, because “the city doesn’t take care of it.”
