By: Mamie Partee
Workers Compensation Liaison
For nineteen years I have been the Workers Compensation Liaison for CWA Local 1182, I guide members through the process of workers compensation within the Police Department and the state.
Procedures for going out on Workers Compensation:
If are hurt on the job:
- Get medical attention no matter injury. Get checked out by a doctor at the scene or hospital.
- The next day seek out a Workers Compensation doctor. If you do not know of one call the Union office at (718) 793- 7755.
- To be considered for Workers Compensation you must be out of work for at least eight (8) days. The eighth day is the first day of Workers Compensation. If you are out less than eight days it is considered sick leave.
- If you are injured you must use up all your existing sick leave in the books.
- You must bring in a doctor’s note to your command stating your injury.
6.
- If your doctor decides that your recovery will take more than eight days you must call Judy Brantley at (646) 610- 8050 or Pooh at (646) 610- 7984, they will set up an appointment for you to see the Police Department’s doctor at 1 Lefrat Plaza.
- The Police Department’s medical division doctor will only give you a routine examination. They will also have a copy of your medical information from your doctor.
- You can contact myself Mamie Partee at (917) 418- 1529. You should also contact the Union’s Workers Compensation lawyers, Gray & Gray at their Manhattan office at (212) 964- 1342 or their Queens office at (718) 268- 5300.
- Option 1 is where the city will pay you your full salary up to ninety days for an injury (trips, falls, or car accidents), and up to eighteen months for an assault.
Feel free to contact me at anytime when you go out on Workers compensation. I am here to help you and answer any questions you may have.
